Breakaway

Playing Field
Breakaway is played on a 27-foot by 54-foot field with two large bumps. The bumps are at 45 degree angles and are located at equidistant positions on the playing field. In the middle of each bump are two tunnels, by which robots can navigate the playing field. At each end of the field are two goals that correspond with each alliance.

Scoring
At the begginning of each match is a 15 second autonomous period during which the robot must operate by itself without any human control. After the autonomous period has ended, the 2 minute human-controlled period begins. During this period, most of the scoring and strategic game play takes place. Alliances earn 1 point for each soccer ball that makes its way into the opposing goal. However, more points can be scored during the final 20 seconds. Robots can lift themselves onto an elevated tower above each tunnel using various climbing methods. If they succeed in accomplishing this task, they will earn 2 points for their alliance. The alliances can earn even more points if they can suspend an additional robot from the already hanging robot. This task will earn them an additional 3 points.
